Soft Annealing
Heat to 650-700oC, cool slowly. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 217.
Normalizing
Temperature: 850-880oC.
Intermediate Annealing
Temperature: 630-650oC.
Carburizing
Temperature: 850-980oC. Cooling from carburizing temperature: oil, water, thermal bathm, salt bath.
Hardening
Core hardening: 830-870oC. Surface hardening: 780-820oC. Quenching media: oil, water, therma; bath.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 150-200oC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1100-850oC.
Elements not quoted in this table shall not be intentionally added to the steel without the agreement of the purchaser, other than for the purpose of finishing the heat. Steels with improved machinability as a result of the addition of lead or higher sulfur contents, depending on the manufacturing process up to around 0.1 % S, may be supplied on request.
